| Q. | What is the design target of the system? |
| A. | The primary market for the system is the license control of long running server software.
| Q. | Can the INFINIPASS software licensing system protect desktop user software? |
| A. | Yes. However, there are certain additional steps that we recommend depending on your requirements. This arises primarily because you must be able to detect a license expiry within a shorter time period. We would be happy to discuss this with you individually.
| Q. | What are the components of the Infinipass system? |
| A. | There are only two components aside from the network connection. Our software library is linked to your existing application code to create a licensing client. Our licensing server is the target of all license authentication communications initiated by your application.
| Q. | Is the software library really free? |
| A. | Yes. Only the server side services attract charges. We believe that all are best served by making the library widely available.
| Q. | How do I obtain tech support for the library if I am not using your license server? |
| A. | Support for non paid users of the library is limited to email and is not guaranteed.
| Q. | What design features address system fault tolerance? |
| A. | Fault tolerance was a key consideration in the implementation of the system. In the default mode, the client is completely impervious to server and network failures for extended time periods. It is possible for the server to be unavailable for a period of 15 days before affecting clients. This window was designed based upon servers which we can repeatably build from scratch in two hours.
| Q. | What is the observable behavior of INFINIPASS? |
| A. | While the software is active, anyone monitoring the network communications will be able to track the packets sent to and from the license server. The packets contain a crytographic signature, and optionally, your payload. These are sent in clear text to allay any worries that a user might have about information leakage over the internet. It is easily verifiable that this is not taking place.
| Q. | What system resources are consumed by INFINIPASS? |
| A. | The system resources consumed are barely noticeable. The additional code is less than 20k. Cpu cycles are negligible as the system is sleeping most of the time. Typical bandwidth usage is less than 4KB a month.
| Q. | What consideration must be given to firewalls? |
| A. | The only requirement when communicating with the licensing server is that our server must be reachable using tcp port 80. As this the standard for web browsing, most sites should not have a problem with this.
| Q. | Are there specific linking requirements? |
| A. | The library makes use of the multi-threading capabilities of the host operating system, therefore you must link with the multi-threaded versions of the standard libraries that you employ in your code.
| Q. | Is this system hackproof? |
| A. | Absolutely not. Experts in the field stress that no system is currently without theoretical or real flaws. Anyone claiming otherwise should be scrutinized very carefully.
| Q. | What are keypaks? |
| A. | Think of them as books of gift certificates for software delivered electronically.
| Q. | Are implementation services available for integration with your library and service? |
| A. | Yes. Although the integration task has been made as painless as possible, we do appreciate that some people would prefer to outsource this.
| Q. | Can I use other protection methods in conjunction with your system? |
| A. | Yes. Infinipass is compatible with all other forms of license protection that we have knowledge of.
| Q. | What configurations do you support? |
| A. | The components of the system allow software vendors to choose either standalone mode or networked mode.
| Q. | What can I do in standalone mode? |
| A. | In standalone mode, your software does not communicate with our server. Therefore, it cannot do any verification on its own other than the time of expiry. If the expiry time has been reached, it can overwrite critical routines and signal the application to take further action.
| Q. | Can we run our own server? |
| A. | No. The server portion of the system is only available as a chargeable service. This is the only part of the business that we charge for.
| Q. | We have some requirements which are not presently addressed by your service, what can we do? |
| A. | Contact us. We would be pleased to discuss your unique requirements with you at your convenience.
| Q. | Are you able to provide a file download site for us? |
| A. | Yes. This is one of the optional services that we provide.
| Q. | Can you handle license issuance and maintenance? |
| A. | Yes. This is one of the optional services that we provide.
| Q. | Are there any startup costs associated with subscribing to your services? |
| A. | Usually not, unless you have requested special services not covered in our rates.
| Q. | Can you handle multiple currencies? |
| A. | Yes. We can handle most major currencies.
| Q. | What do you mean by the term locus? |
| A. | Locus is a term used to describe the legal notion of the place where a transaction or act occurrs. It is often a consideration in determining the tax treatment of certain transactions in a multinational setting. We mention it because it is a consideration for those who benefit from income attributed to the ownership and exploitation of intellectual property. If you require assistance in this area, please consult qualified experts in the field.
| Q. | How much can I expect to pay? |
| A. | Based on standard level services, you can expect to pay as little as $0.10 per unit/month.
| Q. | Can we count on your continued availability? |
| A. | While you must be the final judge of that. We can tell you that we have sufficient funding in place for operating our facilities at the current levels for the next ten years from cash on hand.
| Q. | What steps are taken to ensure the security of the data? |
| A. | We do full backups daily and incremental backups throughout the day.
| Q. | Is there a subscriber user interface? |
| A. | Yes, service subscribers are able to view licensing activity using a secure web interface.
| Q. | Please describe your technical infrastructure? |
| A. | We currently operate multiple enterprise class servers in carrier grade facilities. These facilities were each selected for their connectivity and compliance to NEBS standards. We anticipate that these facilities will serve us well into the future without worrying about scaling or availability.
